So, this self-pimping meme. I feel a little guilty, since I haven't done much writing lately (in any capacity- I really need to finish off that late work with the looming deadline) but I have had such a bitch of a time with writer's block. I think I'm going to have to completely change my fic exchange idea, much as I loved it, because it was way too involved for me to do it justice in the headspace I'm in.

Here's hoping this meme jogs the old muse, in any and all capacities.

Post, in your journal, a rec list singling out the best of your own fics. Tell people why you are especially proud of those particular fics, and of course provide links to them. Yes, that's right, this step involves self-promotion. How else are people supposed to find your fics? List as many or as few as you feel appropriate to represent your body of writing.

Also include a paragraph about the types of fics you most enjoy reading or are most interested in reading in the immediate future -- favorite tropes, pairings, fandoms, whatever. If you're particularly lazy, link to that Dear Writer post you did for whatever holiday exchange comes to mind.

Reply to other rec posts (like for example the one you are reading now) by reccing a fic of your own that might fit the original poster's tastes, or that you'd just really like them to read, because maybe they don't know they'd like it.

When I'm Done Here There are actually quite a few things about this fic that bother me- chief among them that I didn't have a beta at the time, so I feel it suffers for having been posted without a second set of eyes. But that said, it was one of my earliest works in the fandom, and for all its flaws I really put myself into this one.

It ended up being much different than I'd intended, to be honest. The inspiration for this struck immediately as Blood on the Scales ended, and the thing that made it imperative for me to write it was going to be a final section with Adama. But I started writing Hoshi's section, and everything changed. It was supposed to be as short as the rest and end with him still angry, but then Gaius entered the picture and... that was it. Everything changed. There are some wording issues that make me wince, but I made myself cry writing this, and I'm very attached to it in spite of its flaws.

Deus Ex Asteroid: A Tragicomedy of Errors What can I say? I cracked myself up the entire time I was writing this, and I read it to my sister to make sure it was amusing to other people, and she thought it was just as funny as I did. This was entirely inspired by the fact that there was no other explanation for what happened to the characterization in 4.5 It's a cracktastic crossover, but I swear you don't need to be familiar with Thursday Next for this to be amusing. My beta didn't know the series and helped me make sure of it. I'm also a fan of the companion ficlets I wrote for various prompt memes. And oddly enough, this crackfest helped me work through my Adama issues- I got to mercilessly ridicule 4.5 Adama, while continuing to love the Old Man I was so attached to through the rest of the series.
Its companions/Missing Scenes:
The Places He Went
Truly, A Promising Start
Worst-Laid Plans

Sleeping on Empty Dreams I love how memes take me places I never would have gone on my own. I took a first line from [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant (which, I realized later, was actually a fic of the same pairing- completely unintentional) and turned it into a ficlet I'm rather fond of. It's just a slice of life on New Caprica, a missing moment between Felix and Eight, the way I see the two of them. It's one of those ones I return to when I'm in the mood to read my own work.

Flashes of Gossip, Moments in Time For all that I used to be such a hard-core slasher in my youth, I found myself writing a lot of het in this fandom. Especially het involving Gaeta, which is oddly hilarious, since he's pretty much one of two confirmed non-straight men on this show. But I'm a fan of bi!Felix, and I like this little Gaeta/Dee story. They're absolutely precious BFFs, and I would never frak with that, but I can definitely see them having something pre-series. Plus, I'm happy with the fact that I wrote a story in which there was a breakup where nobody was the bad guy. That's been my own experience most of the time, and I rarely see it in fic. I also had fun playing with the voice of the crew- I think I must have been inspired by And Then We Came to the End, which is a book told from the second-person plural. That was really cool.

The Demon in the Hall This is a somewhat random choice, but for whatever reason, I really enjoy this ficlet. I actually saw [livejournal.com profile] trovia's Xander/Gaeta prompt four or five times during that challenge and thought it was a hilarious thought that I hoped someone would write... and then I looked at it again, and bam! This story. Buffy is my favorite show, and Battlestar my second-favorite, and pairing my two favorite boys together? I had too much fun writing it. The fact that they're both injured woobies doesn't hurt. It might not be the most amazing piece of ficcing ever, but I enjoy it anyway. I come back to it when I'm in the mood for a self-indulgent chuckle.

Well, it seems I picked stories that either made me sad or that amused me to write. Makes sense, I guess, if I invested myself the most in them, even if it was just investment in the silliness.

Oooh I adore the first three you've named. Don't believe I've read the last two, so now I've got someting to do today :)

:) Yeah, the last one is a really random choice, I'm just oddly attached to it. But I do like my Gaeta/Dee, if only because I had fun writing them with adorable banter made silly by coupledom. Thanks!
